About me

I’m James Boothroyd, a trainee British Mountain Guide, currently based in the Lake District. I discovered my passion for climbing in my late teens on the gritstone crags of the Peak District. At 20, my love for exposure and towering mountains drew me to Chamonix, where I have spent years climbing classic mountains and alpine routes.

I am passionate about all forms of climbing, from deep water soloing to big alpine routes. Some of my best climbing experiences include climbing the North Face of the Grandes Jorasses in winter with my good friend Albert. Reaching the summit of the Dru in the Alps and making the second ascent of Eastern Promise VI 7 on Beinn Eighe, in the beautiful North West of Scotland on a bluebird winter day.

I have had the privilege of guiding climbers on some of the UK's most iconic routes, up to E3, and helping many take their first steps into traditional climbing. I’ve worked with climbers to push their limits and achieve personal milestones, sharing memorable ascents across the country.

I truly enjoy sharing my passion for climbing, helping others challenge themselves, and seeing the joy that comes from being outdoors. Guiding allows me to be part of moments where people achieve their goals and connect with nature, which is incredibly rewarding.
